Palm finished! and other things

Sorry for not having updated this for such a long time. There's been a lot going on and I am only just managing to catch up with myself. So here's what I have been up to.

My sister Juliette came to see me about 2 weeks ago. We had a really lovely time, sightseeing, drinking, eating and arguing as all good sibilings do. Here's a picture of her by the Hans Christian Andersen statue in Central Park.

Doesn't she look lovely? We also went to the Guggenheim (that was the more cultural bit of her trip) which was interesting although we did have the worst (but very nice) tour guide in the world. He saying things like 'This is a picture of hands' or 'This is a painting of a house'. Quite odd.

The reason that Juliette came to see me is that our mother was graduating from Harvard having done her Masters degree there. So we went up to Boston and met up with my parents. We had a lovely time, it's rare that we are all in the same place at the same time.

It would be fair to say that my mother has more than her fair share of the brains in my family, so not only did she graduate with an A on her Master's thesis but she also got a prize for the best thesis and a prize for the highest GPA. How proud are we? Oh and I forgot to say that my mother if French so English is not even her first language. Maman - On est tous tres fiers de toi (sorry about the lack of accents but it is far too late for that). So, here she is in full regalia.

And I gave her the Palm cardigan as a surprise and she seems to love it. So I am most happy.

After the graduation and plenty of celebrating, my sister returned home and my parents, the husband and I headed up to New Hampshire for a few days rest and relaxation. We stayed at a family favourite, the Notchland Inn, which has a lovely location, fabulous food and the people who run it, Ed, Les and Cath, are lovely.

On the way there, we drove past the Canterbury Shaker Village by chance so we stopped and went for a visit. We meant to stay for an hour but ended up staying for about 4 hours - the place was fascinating. We had a wonderful guide, who was so knowledgable and had actually known some of the shakers. You can go on a guided tour or just wander about on your own. It is, without any doubt, one of the most peaceful places I have ever been.

We also took some time to go walking in the New Hamshire forest and look at the rather impressive picture that the husband took:

We also managed a trip to Bretton Woods, a place I remember learning about in history class at high school.

And we drove to the top of Mount Washington. We did contemplate walking to the top but after the previous day's walk and it's effect on my legs, I am just grateful that we decided not to. And yes, that is a river coming out of my ear...

Finally I said goodbye to my parents, the husband and jumped on a plane to Washington to go and stay with Kristine for a couple of days. And guess who 'just happened' to be there? Debbie Bliss!! Well all I can say is that she is ever so nice and a lovely time was had by all. I have 'borrowed' this picture from the Knit Happens site as none of the ones on my camera did any of us any favours.

I also got to spend 2 WHOLE days at Knit Happens and am now the official adresser and stamper of newsletters there. At least I now feel as though I have a job :)

I did increase my stash during this time (obviously) but have not managed to take any pictures yet, or could it be that I am hoping that the husband may not notice, after all, I sent a fair amount back with Juliette... I will endeavour to take the pictures tomorrow and post them then.

Welcome Back Amelia!
I must keep coming back to the beautiful moss stitch sweater, it's my inspiration.
Lovely to meet you at Knit Happens and THANK you for the beautiful necklace. I wore it over the weekend to loads of compliments! My best friend got such a kick out of the story behind it and my husband fears I'll start offering people money for their wears.
Take care and CHEERS!
