Lots of projects

Gosh, has it really been a week since I last posted? Time seems to fly at the moment.

I haven't yet made a decision about the stripes on my Flighty top. I ripped it all out the other day and started doing the stripes in another order but I am still not convinced that I have got it right. Now I am thinking that it might be better with smaller, thinner rows. I am going to wait to see one of my friends who knows a bit about design tomorrow to see what she thinks - just to get another point of view. Tomorrow evening I shall make a call about it. If only because Flighty is currently sat in the corner of my living room taunting me. Which is really very annoying.

A parcel came in the post for me this week. Now, I don't get parcels very often so when I do, I tend to tear the parcel to shreads whilst still standing in the entrance area of the building and shrieking rather loudly. And I was quite right to shriek, see what Wendy sent me:

Peruvian Baby Silk yarn

It is oh so soft. And the colour is quite perfect - it's a light yellow/gold colour and has a beautiful sheen. Suggestions of what to knit on a postcard please.

Here is my dark blue Debbie Bliss boat neck sweater blocking. I hear you all crying that there is only the back of the sweater blocking. That would be because I am an absolute swizzlestick and I miscounted the rows on the front of the sweater and knitted 10 rows too many. Duh. So I have just ripped them out and I am about to put the 2 rows of garter stitch back in and cast it off. If I only I knew how to count...

Not to be outdone by my friends Kristine and Polly who have both been knitting with one of my favourite yarns, Rowan All Seasons Cotton. And in the dark grey colour of which I have 3 packs in my stash. Two of them are designated for the husband as he has specified that he likes that yarn in that colour. And trust me, there aren't many colours or yarns that he would wear. But that still leaves a pack for me so I have cast on Ice:

And I love it. It knits up fast, I can do it pretty much anywhere as I don't need to watch the pattern or anything like that (other than the occasional increase) and it's so so soft on the hands. I know that the pattern is really simple and not much of a challenge but it's soothing knitting and provides a break from the following:

Yes, I can finally say that I understand those of you who compare sock knitting with fighting with a rather large porcupine. I have been saying for a while that I would like, one day, to give socks a go so Polly brought some yarn and needles to Libertys on Thursday and Jacinta and I both cast on for our first sock. I have just about managed to get into a rythm with it which is nice.

The only problem is that Polly left us both with homework: 6" of the sock to be completed by Thursday. All I am doing is 2 x 2 ribbing on 2.75mm needles but it is slow going to say the least... I will keep you posted on my progess.

And I leave you with a couple of pictures of Hampstead Heath in all of its glory. I really am very lucky to live here.

I really like the color of the sock. Can you tell me the brand and colorway? Thanks.

Run away, Amelia, run away! I've seen what they're going to decorate your room with while you're at Kristine's. Run away!!!

I think your very brave to attempt socks. I love the comparison to fighting with a porcupine. I also love your pictures of Hampstead Heath. It's one of my favorite places and I always like to visit it when I am on your side of the Pond.

Hi Amelia,
Your sock's coming on beautifully and you still have another evening's work on it before thursday. Let's hope Polly turns up in plenty of time for the next set of instructions!

I see that you are nearly complete with your homework. Please check that there are no dropped stitches. Wait til you get to the heel turning.. .then you'll see how addictive it is...
