I've got the blues...

First of all, an admission - Juju, I am awfully sorry but you won't be getting that sweater for Xmas after all. Despite my best attempts, I can't get my tension to settle down at the moment and I have decided that this is one of those times when it is best to step away from the project and pick it up at a later date. For the rest of you, Juju is my sister and I am being a coward and announcing it here rather than calling her and telling her. Now I am going to need to find her another gift, a good excuse to go and do some shopping!

Which shouldn't be too hard as tomorrow is 20% off night at Libertys so I am sure that I will find something there if I have a good look around. For those of you that won't be able to make it, here's an air of Libertys at Xmas - the decorations from the centre bit of the store.

Libertys Christmas decorations

They really are lovely - they are made from paper (or maybe card) and they swirl around a little - due to the hot air circulating, I guess. Anyway, they are lovely Xmas decorations.

I dont' think that I shall be indulging too much though as this arrived in the post yesterday:

Libertys Christmas decorations

Yes, it's Magpie aran in Prance. A lovely dark purple. And yes, it is a colour and it is for me. To be precise, it is to make the Fiddlesticks 'C'est la vie' shawl. You can see it here. Looking at the picture, it really doesn't look like the kind of thing that I would go for - in fact the husband looked at me as though I was crazy when the pattern showed up in the post.

But, I have tried it on courtesy of Dawn who brought it to Libertys for us all to drool over. Polly and I nearly came to blows over it - it was so lovely. Dawn knitted it in the Magpie Aran in (I think) Coffee Bean, a lovely orangey brown colour. Anyway, I tried it on and fell in love. It has a real weight to it and drapes beautifully. I have to have it.

I will have some interesting knitting content one day soon. I am not the most inspired knitter at the moment and have decided to let that be ok until after Xmas. Then I shall start knitting properly again. Until then I am going to knit things where tension is not a huge issue and I am going to cut myself some slack. My tension has been all over the shop and that has really got me down - I would love to be one of those people who have spot on tension. Instead I am as tight as they come. I have tried to relax but I find it hard to keep my tension neat when I try to knit loose - so then I don't like the way my knitting looks. My last resort may just have to be to try to teach myself to knit continental or to hold my needles differently. Or something.

I think that a mixture of the days shortening, the cold, my car being broken into and having to help the husband to do his expenses (blah!) is all getting to me. I think I need a big cup of tea, 2 chocolate digestives and some cashmerino aran to cheer me up.

Love the shawl pattern - and the purple magpie, it's one of my favourite shades. Bummer about the car (not to mention the hubbie's expenses !), I think I'd have 3 chocolate digestives myself ....

So sorry to hear about the car being broken into, what rotten luck!

Sorry to hear about the car and more importantly that you are not feeling very inspired. Bet you come home feeling hungry to pick up your needles after tonight!

Don't spend too much...

I was also so taken with Dawn's C'est la Vie shawl/wrap that I have started one too, in Magpie that I bought in Liberty's sale in the summer. I haven't even measured my tension, certainly haven't done the square they suggest in the pattern! I have done the big rectangle and am working on the smaller one, from what Dawn said I think the ruffles will be rather time-consuming......Mine is a sort of sea greeny-blue - had no trouble with the pattern.

So sorry about the car, nasty.

So sorry to hear about the car being broken into - that alone is enough to merit chocolate, a good cuppa and some lovely yarn.

Sounds like a cuppa, chocolate and yarn is in order!
Enjoy the sale at Liberty!
hugs,
