The husband. Wearing the guernsey. (Is there a definitive spelling of guernsey/gurnsey/gansey? There appear to be numerous spellings and a definitive lack of agreement. Maybe it's got to do with where it's knitted? Anyone?)

I am really proud as he really likes it. And wears it a lot. Which means that it probably won't last very long. The Debbie Bliss Cotton DK is very soft and but it isn't the strongest of yarns. I think it's a lot softer than the Rowan Handknit Cotton that I used for Jenny but it doesn't have the same strength. As the husband has a fair amount of stubble on his neck by the end of the day, the neck is already getting a bit of a battering.
If I knitted a cotton dk garment for me, I'd use the Debbie Bliss Cotton DK as it's nicer but if I knit a sweater for the husband again (don't go getting ideas darling!), I think I'd use the Rowan Handknit Cotton. Just a thought.
The husband lost a lot of weight from when I cast this on to when I finished it. Which is nice because he looks great but the sweater is a bit bigger on him than I would have intended. I also shortened the sleeves a bit as the husband is not keen on long sleeves as they apparently get in his way.
It looks great on him, color, fit, pattern, everything. Nicely done, Amelia!
Posted by: MJ at January 12, 2006 01:15 AMIt's lovely. Good job!
Posted by: Carol at November 13, 2005 02:52 AMI love a man in a gansey. You always finish things so perfectly.
Next time, Denim? Denim can deal with manly stubble! xoxo Kay
Posted by: Kay at November 12, 2005 06:00 AMThe sweater is beautiful Amelia! I'm knitting my first project right now with Debbie Bliss Cotton Cashmere and I absolutely love the yarn!

The sweater looks great on your husband. What a cute guy!! We think that he looks like one of our friends over here. Does he like the sweater? See, with my luck, I would lovingly knit this sweater for my husband and he would not wear it...Or worse yet, he would actually tell me that he didn't like it!!! It looks GREAT. Lucky guy.
Amelia: The sweater looks amazing. Congrats.
Iolo: The weight you lost? I found it. Would love to give it back.
Posted by: Marivi at November 8, 2005 05:18 AMawesome!
Posted by: D R E W at November 8, 2005 01:47 AMGreat job! Personally I would take a relaxed attitude towards the spelling. What's spelling when considering a beautiful sweater? The husband and the sweater really compliment each other.
Posted by: Shirra at November 7, 2005 02:24 PMFeel very, very proud ! A fab jumper, beautifully knitted, that's being worn. How great is that ?!
It's a lovely photo too.
Fab Ally Pally purchases by the way. :0)
Gansey looks just great, which pattern did you use?
Fab colour on your fella too!
Chris
Well done Amelia! He looks very handsome and the jumper looks great.

Posted by: Sarah at November 3, 2005 10:09 AMWhat a handsome man, and a gorgeous sweater! Well done - on both counts!!!! LOL!!! :-)
Posted by: Jill H at November 2, 2005 07:57 PMThe Hubby looks great. Wish my hubby would wear something I'd knit him. Unless he has paid over the ods for something, and the label sparkles, it wont touch his back.
Posted by: Estee at November 2, 2005 06:43 PMVery nice! I agree with a previous commenter: not too big, just right!
Posted by: Dana at November 2, 2005 06:01 PMNice! Its wonderful when a handknit is really appreciated like this! Looks great!
Posted by: Diana at November 2, 2005 04:02 PMLooks great!
Posted by: stinkerbell at November 2, 2005 02:29 PMAmelia, it looks great! Congratulations on finishing such a big project.
Posted by: Christina at November 2, 2005 04:00 AMSince guernsey has the most letters, I think you can't go wrong with that spelling. However you spell it, the jumper looks fantastic!
Gorgeous! You did a wonderful job and he looks great in it.
Posted by: diana at November 1, 2005 09:35 PMThe jumper (whatever its name...) looks really great. And I think you're brave to knit a man's sweater, I wouldn't have the courage (too many stitches...). Well done Amelia!
Posted by: francoise at November 1, 2005 09:34 PMwhat a lovely gansey. Hubby looks a bit anxious- maybe it's the publicity... Chris would just love to pose!
It's a nice colour as well, I see you fondness for subtle browns doesn't stretch to relatives!
Dawn:)
PS It looks like it fits him well - doesn't look too big to me.
Very impressive Guernsey !! I always thought the jumpers were named after the island....
Posted by: Kira at November 1, 2005 06:08 PMLovely sweater and looks to be the perfect color for your husband! If my husband saw it, he'd want one too!
Posted by: laura at November 1, 2005 06:07 PMgorgeous sweater and a lovely shade of blue! plus a handsome model to boot... :-) great project.
Posted by: Vicki at November 1, 2005 03:49 PMGood looking sweater and model. The fit is fine, too.
Posted by: Chery at November 1, 2005 01:10 PMThe sweater is wonderful (I say "gansey" by the way) and looks great on the hub!
Posted by: Wendy at November 1, 2005 12:14 PMi'm playing it safe. the jumper is gorgeous. and i think hubby looks smashing in it!
Posted by: jacqueline at November 1, 2005 11:27 AMthe husband looks fab! so does the g****ey!
Posted by: kris at November 1, 2005 10:50 AMIt was lovely to finally meet you! I'm catching up with my Bloglines at long last. I think hubby looks very pleased with himself in his wonderful gansey. Knitting for them is like wrapping them in a big hug don't you think?
Posted by: Tracy at November 1, 2005 09:57 AMThe hubby looks great, but then again he looked great before he dropped all that weight. Men tend to be much more hard wearing on their clothing and if it's just the neck, you should be able to fix and reknit that if/when required.
Well done for finishing this. It does look great ant the colour really suits the hubby.
Posted by: P at November 1, 2005 09:52 AMI'm really impressed - both by the jumper and the fact Hubbie was prepared to have it knitted for him. I made David a scarf, but he's not prepared to risk a jumper. :-)
Seriously, it looks brilliant - no wonder he wears it a lot.
