Baby blankets

Back in August I asked which baby blankets I should be thinking about knitting for my soon to be born niece or nephew. I had some lovely ideas from all sorts of people.

Here is a small selection of them.

Baby blankets

Clockwise from the top left hand corner:

- Erika Knight's Heirloom Silk Shawl from 'Baby Bloom'.

- Mason Dixon's Moderne Baby Blanket from 'Mason Dixon Knitting'.

- Auntie's Afghan from Oat Couture. They have some really pretty baby blankets, other than this one.

- The Apple Tree blanket from RY Classic's 'Bambino' book (that one got a LOT of votes. Yvonne made one and it really is gorgeous).

- Lucinda Guy's My House Blanket from 'Designs for Kids' was also suggested. She has gorgeous clothes and toy patterns for children.

- The last blanket is the Hoover blanket from Knitty.

There were quite a few other suggestions that I don't have pictures for - you can read them all here.

The Alpaca woman kindly suggested the Debbie Bliss Entrelac Shawl. An excellent suggestion but I am not aiming to learn new techniques on a project with a rather unmoveable deadline!

Sally suggested that I do the Welsh Alphabet. A lovely, thoughtful idea. Except that they have 28 letters and the idea of trying to chart "ff", "ng" or "rh" didn't really appeal. Yes, the Welsh alphabet considers some double letters to be one letter. If you want to find out more, have a read here.

There were some other suggestions worth noting, including Jane who kindly gave me a very old baby blanket pattern. But there was always something not quite right: yarn too fine, yarn too chunky, too hard (I am still laughing at the entrelac) or way too easy (if you've made the alphabet blanket for number one, a simple knit and purl blanket does not seem like much of an option).

And then I found the one that I wanted to make.

Baby blankets

It uses Debbie Bliss's wool cotton which is what I made the Alphabet Blanket from. It uses yarn from stash (always good). And it's just complicated enough to look really good but it's not going to be too hard to do.

Although, it might take a while. I am slowly discovering that this is no fast knit...

That's lovely Amelia. I'm finishing off a baby blanket today - but it's a bit bright as it's in Kureyon :0) Hope the parents don't mind bright colours !

It's great that you are able to use some stash yarn. It should turn out lovely! May I ask the name of the pattern.

Very nice! Look at all the things you have to pay attention to, though! Cables and different patterns all over the place... It'll be beautiful when it's done!
