I am not usually too fussed about the number of WIPs that I have. After all, if I have as many pairs of needles as I do, surely they all need to be used? But recently, it has gotten a bit out of hand to put it lightly.
So I am outing all of the bits in the hope that this will shame me into actually doing some knitting and, probably more to the point, some finishing. I hate finishing. Knitting, I love. Finishing is fiddly, difficult and the bit that I always feel as though I fall down on. Mind you, some of my friends over here will tell that I am just too much of a perfectionist.
So, on the needles at the moment, we have:
1. Bea from Kim Hargreaves. I am nearly at the top of the last piece (one of the fronts) and am clearly procrastinating just because I do not want to have to block and finish it.
2. The lace scarf from Debbie Bliss' Pure Cashmere. Again finished but in need of a good blocking and the ends need sewing in. This is just a case of getting the iron out. But it's annoying and I am, again, avoiding.
3. 2 x Argyle baby cardigan from Debbie Bliss' Special Knits for Babies. One is finished and blocked and now needs a button band adding and a whole load of sewing. The other is finished but in need of blocking and then all of the above (see? it sounds like SUCH a LOT of work).
4. Is the second of the cardigans above. I need them to be separate items so that I can strike them off individually over the weekend if I actually finish them...
5. The Debbie Bliss Ski Sweater from the Cashmerino DK book. I am half way up the yoke. I put it on hold for a bit as I was convinced that my fairisle was WAY too tight but the Liberty girls told me it looked fine to them and should block out OK. So that needs finishing.
6. Birch. Yes, again. I need one of my own you see. The one that was sent off was reluctantly parted with. But 'soon', I'll have one of my own.
7. My little cotton tank top. Yes, only those of you that were reading this blog back in September 2004 may vaguely remember that I cast on Flighty from Rowan 23. Well one of these days I will overcome the fact that I do not want to have to sew on the straps or the button loops. Although there is a nagging voice in the back of my head telling me there was a problem with it which may explain why it ended up behind the sofa.
8. Martha from Rowan 28. Back in March last year, I knit a sleeve, then diverted the needles to something else and now I have a sleeve waiting for some friends. Time to get knitting.
9. Socks. I'll elaborate on those another day. But there are socks on needles Chez Jones.
Right I am off to do something about this list. Today's goals are:
Finish the second front of Bea.
Block Bea.
Block lacey scarf.
Start button band on 1st argyle cardigan. I'll let you know tomorrow how I fared.
Finishing is the painful bit - listing them out so you get the satisfaction of crossing them off the list is a great way to go.
Love what you are knitting. Have lusted after 'Martha' for some time. Even did a test square! And the Argyle Cardi is just gorgeous.
Posted by: susan at February 12, 2007 12:42 AMI also donīt like finishing and so some (at the moment 5) things are lying in their baskets, waiting to be sewn up. I think itīs my fear of disturbing it all when making ugly seams and so.
Bea is the next item on my list, I already have the yarn and instruction, it is such a lovely cardigan. I had never seen one finished (or even started) on a blog, so I am so much looking forward to see yours!
packing my things up has brought the same to my attention...
cant wait to see some FO's
An impressive list! I'm looking forward to seeing the results!!
Posted by: Meg at February 11, 2007 09:53 AMThe list might seem to be long, but quite a few of them don't need much more doing and you'll feel so much better once it is done and dusted. Courage!
Posted by: francoise at February 10, 2007 10:22 PMi don't think that is nearly enough WIP's! i am sure it is about time you cast on for a birch for me!! ;-)
Posted by: jacqueline at February 10, 2007 09:33 PMSomeone in my local knitting group is doing the same thing, and I can't even begin to describe how happy it's making her to finish stuff. She says she feels 30 pounds lighter. So however hard it is, know that it's worth it!
Besides, aside from Martha and the Ski Sweater (and maybe Birch, dunno how much you've done), I bet you can do all of this in a week.
I love the way the updated banner looks, by the way. Very clean, very nice.
Posted by: Amy at February 10, 2007 06:29 PMYou have almost as many as me. I have done the same thing and promised no more casting on for the moment - just as soon as Karin returns with more needles.......
Posted by: Johanne at February 10, 2007 06:08 PMGood luck. Blocking a scarf should be a breeze compared to button bands and all that!
